| Around the Green |
Winter is now upon us. The leaves have left the trees, the conkers have gone (mostly into peoples pockets) and the wildflower meadow area has been cut. There is still wildlife around of course, especially the birds that use the pond to drink and bathe and those like the moorhens that have made it their home. If you have a chance to walk over to the copse, even though winter is only just upon us, you may see already the new shoots of snowdrops, and the hellebores are beginning to come into flower. |

Future plans for attracting wildlife to the Green and adding more wildflowers to the ones we already have, include making an area of annual wildflowers - poppies, cornflowers and corn marigolds amongst others. These are plants that will attract lots of insects - bee, butterflies and hoverflies and these insects in turn will encourage birds and mammals to find food on the Green. Sowing this wildflower patch alongside the path is something we will be undertaking in the early spring. |
