THE WILDLIFE POND

kbsgreen.org

The Wildlife Pond has been made using a butyl liner, covered with soil.  This has given it a very natural appearance, and also means that the wild plants we have chosen will grow well and vigorously.  This in turn means that the wildlife we expect to come to the pond will have plenty of places to hide! We are hoping to see a wide range of aquatic wildlife in the pond, and already have a breeding frog population.  The odd toad has also been seen, and the pond is deep enough to tempt these amphibians as well.  Newts will be next, and if we are lucky, great crested should take up residence soon.

The frosty pond in December

As well as frogs and toads there have been several species of dragonfly and damselfly in the summer months, laying eggs and making their home here.  Lots of birds use the pond for drinking and bathing and last summer a pair of mallard and a tufted duck were seen almost every day.
